CM2 curriculum, France — mathematics

Kalan follows the official CM2 curriculum and works through every topic with your child, without ever giving the answer.

What your child works on

  • Fractions and decimals
  • Proportionality
  • Plane geometry
  • Measurement
  • Problem solving

How Kalan helps

A placement test positions the child on the curriculum map. Each session covers one topic, with help rising one rung at each block — and stepping back down as soon as they move again.

The mechanism

The help ladder

When a child gets stuck, Kalan climbs one rung. One only. Then it steps back down as soon as the child moves again. Here are all six, in order.

No rung contains the answer to the current exercise. That is enforced in code, not in tone: every release is tested against hundreds of attempts to get around it.

  1. Encouragement“Say the first step out loud again.”

  2. Prompting question“What exactly are you looking for?”

  3. Breaking it down“Deal with the denominators first.”

  4. The rule recalled, not applied.

  5. A fully worked analogue — a different exercise.

  6. A recap of the method, and the session closes.

Watch it refuse to give the answer

The demo is open, no account and no card needed. Ask it a pupil’s question, and try to get the result out of it.
